I just took a look at the cover of the new Cabelas Master Fishing catalog for 2009. I just about choked when I looked at the “walleye snake” being held by the guy on the front cover. Looks like what Utah Lake walleyes were looking during the last year of the big drought a few years ago. You could just about read a newspaper through them.
I got to thinking that Cabelas really should have been able to get a better picture of a walleye than that one. If they want anglers to buy gear to catch those fish, they should show a big fat healthy one. Nobody wants to catch “hammer handles”…long bodies and big heads.
Then again, maybe its mama was messin’ around with a sneaky northern pike.

Your right when I saw that I thought man that is one bad looking fish to make the cover of Cabelas. You think with as many as sponsors that have to give then someone should be able to put up a nicer looking fish than that. Or maybe it was just a hybrid with a muskie which then it would be a nice fish to have out here in Utah.
Yeah I totally agree with you guys (NOT), I would hate to catch a fish like that. Just too skinny for me, I am too good to catch a fish like that!!! Gimme a break, I understand what you are saying, but you are wasting time judging the cover of a magazine instead of chasing that Walleye yourself. Get over it, they are not going to re-print a new cover just because someone doesnt like it. Let go show them what a real Walleye looks like then!!! Again, why isnt this on the Off Topic Forum, because a “higher up” posted it??? Nothing against TD, but I get “razzed” for stuff like this, just trying to make it fare!!!

If you look at page 60 of the April Issue of Field and Stream you will notice the same Walleye Pic as the one in the left corner of the Cabelas Catalog. You can even see the Partial Cabelas Logo on his shorts, same lure and all. I Hope these pics worked.

Why not post something of interest and value to the general membership, rather than lurk on the sidelines, waiting to take a potshot at someone?

First off I wasnt taking any shots, just stating an opinion on the fact that the post should not have been on the Fishing Forum. You say post something interesting, well what the heck is this post? Who cares about a snakey Walleye? A year or so ago I posted a report when I ran across that guy that kidnapped his ex-wife, shot her, ran out of gas in the middle of the desert and I ran across them and got her the help she needed. The guy killed himself but the lady eventually pulled through and lived, but that post got moved. Granted absolutely nothing to do with fishing, but one of our own BFT guys did something to help someone and was recognized in the paper and news (tv) and it only lasted about 33 minutes on the board!!! If it was someone like yourself it would have lasted forever on the board because you are who you are!!!
