Well we thought we would try our luck today. We fished the mid section of the lake today. We headed out of Grasshopper. Water temps were 64-68 degrees. We caught several fish early on topwater lures. We threw the Sammy and some prop baits. The fish we caught near deep water. Deep is a relative term due to the low water conditions. I havent seen the lake this low in about 20 years. You could see spawning beds that were in a couple of inches of water. I didnt see any fish near the beds. Most of the fish we caught appeared to be male bass. It was a short trip because Dan had to be back to the ramp by noon. I went back out for a little while alone. I did manage to catch a couple of more keepers on a shakey head. I was fishing downed trees on or near rock bluffs. If you want to learn the lake now is the time to go. You can see all the spawning flats because they are on dry ground. I found stumps in a creek that I didnt know were there. On my way back to the ramp I stopped to pull a boat off a sand bar. I have fished this lake since 1980 and I never knew that hump was there. I bet the prop repair places love this low water. It was still nice to get out, even if I couldnt fish where I wanted. I will be glad when the water comes back up.
