Brookies

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good brookie spot? I’ve never caught one, and my wife’s been wanting me to take her fly fishing.

Thanks!

Where are you at? Are you looking for a bucket of 6" fish for the skillet or the 5 # for the wall?

I’m in Eagle. Just looking for some pan size fish, nothing special. Just some fun fish to get my wife into, and to check brookies off my list.

Well those would be a bit larger than what I chase in the creeks lol. I’d try (PM Sent) Lake. Haven’t been there in 20 years but it use to have some nice pan sized fish. Only a couple hours from home, nice drive, moderate hike. They did drop some TM in it 5 to 10 years ago so I’m not sure how the brookies fared. The other lakes in the area have cutthroat, rainbows and brooks also. Good luck!

What are TM?

Thanks for the info! I think we’re looking for some small stream fish, though. I’ll keep looking.[;)]

Tm= tiger musky

Most local streams have brooks but you’ll not find many fish I’d consider pan sized. Good luck on your quest.

Bull Trout Lake has a ton of brookies. Best spot to flyfish is at the inlet on the south end

I have caught some (in the very few times I’ve fished the area) in valley creek that runs through Stanley. I know they stock it with rainbows too, but it seemed like all I caught in the upper end of the valley were brookies.
