me and my family have been wanting to go camping for a while now, ive herd many great things about boulder mountain and i want to give it a try.i was wondering if u guys could give me some help. this is my first time ever going down there so have no clue as to where to go and where to fish. i want a nice place to camp with the family but with easy access to good fishing. any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance![;)]
Lower Bowns has great free camping and nice rainbows that love flies or bait. Also Posey has camping in higher altituide where you can stay cool and catch 'bows and brook trout.
haha would it be to much to ask for directions? we are planning on going this weekend and i want to discuss our options with my dad.
I could describe it to you but just go to googlemaps instead. It will be easier to follow and you can decide the best route for you.
whatever you do DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES contact Steve Stoner down there. Several of us can tell you where to fish [;)]
There are places to camp all over that mountain. Most of the good lakes are on the north side but there are several good ones on the South as well especially if you are willing to hike a little bit.
Good Luck!
I was there last weekend…we always hit lower bounds at night just before the sun goes down for some dry fly fishing. You most likely won’t catch anything huge, but you’ll catch 30+ fish in about an hour or so. Fish Creek is a good lake to take the family to. It’s a gnarly ride up unless you’ve got 4 wheelers or you can always hike. Blind Lake is an easy 1 mile hike and it’s another good lake to take the fam to. Check online for maps. Fish Creek and Blind are well known and again, easy to get to. The trails are clearly marked. Good luck! Hope you catch some monster brookies! ![]()
Just a wise decision not to go on that Plateau without 4wd and xtra everything.
Yes, I’ve spent quite a lot of time in that area fishing and hunting, and I’d agree with what the others have said. If you’ve never been in the area before, Lower Bowns would be a good one to start with, with easy access and usually pretty decent fishing. There are some great primitive camping sites along Pleasant Creek on the way down the road to Lower Bowns. If you want to drive farther off the main road, Posey Lake and Upper Barker would be good bets. You can get to Posey by heading across Boulder Top from Loa. You can get to Upper and Lower Barker etc. from the same route, or from Escalante. The best idea is to be prepared to move around some, maybe camp on a different lake, or hike into a different lake every day. It’s a great place - - wish I were there!!! (When they say there are bears around, believe them, there really are plenty of bears around, I’ve seen them. Not scary, but pretty cool.)
hey thanks everyone, i think ill probably go to lower bowns. is it the easiest access to fishing? i was thinkin like right next to the road or campsite. we had originally planned to go to the uintas but i decided against this seeing as how we need to try something new and the upper provo is still unfishable.
