Had a pretty good day on the Weber.
After seeing the DWR go down this stretch several weeks ago and shock (keeping and killing the large ones), I didnt think there would be any left.
Oh man…shocking and killing only the large one’s…damn it…I was wondering if I should go the Weber for some large Browns…guess not now. I’d imagine the DWR does that to benifit the river ecosystem? Personally I like big fish compared to small ones. DWR must stand for Doing Wrong Rightously

First, that fish would be lucky to go 4(benefit of doubt) pounds, and second, I would like more info on the DWR killing the fish it shocked!

you fellas sure the fish were dead? when a fish is shocked it will go belly up for a bit and then recover. unless of course they were keeping shocked fish for brood stock or something like that

All of 'em are nice fish!
The DWR did not go down the river keeping and killing fish of any size. We have been sampling the Weber and a few fish do die because of this but very few. There is a research project going on from Peterson down through the canyon and we will be on the river quite regularly. Be assured that the fish are just stunned most of the time we don’t even collect the browns. The research in on the Bonneville cutthroat in this section. So unless we are trying to get a population estimate we don’t even try to net the browns. If we are doing a population estimate the browns are collected, counted weighed and measured and released alive. Hope this clears up any confusion.

Glad to hear it…I am all for killing fish (that’s been well established) but I hate to hear that the BIG guys are being killed just for the sake of research. Thanks for clearing that up and all. Good luck on your project.
haha yea… that was back in my much fatter days haha and yes i am making a face from hell.. but just shows how heavy that fish was
