Big Bass Pics at Newton

With much hesitation and many PM’s, I decided that I would post my bass pics from Newton. Some people I am sure will be upset that I kept this big bass. I love fish and have always kept most of what I catch. I caught these big ones real early before the crowds and one evening with no one else on the lake. LC

The first fish went 3lb 8oz. Notice all the small crappie and bluegill.

The second fish went 5lb 4oz. Caught a bunch of smaller fish on that day as well.

Thanks for posting. I love to eat fresh caught fish, and intend to do so whenever I can - now… if I just knew how to catch 'em a little better .

Great Fish!!!
I sure don’t keepn most of what I catch, but I love to eat fish, especially crappie and walleye. I’ve never released any of them. I’ve also aquired a taste for smallmouth bass. Posting that might earn me a few enemies, but just wanted you to know your not alone lordCrappie.
Fishjon
PS Maybe I should stay home from the Gorge one weekend before it thaws and join you on Newton. Those are sure great fish!!!

LordCrappie, Thanks for posting your pictures and report, I also go to Newton sometimes but never do that good, but I also go for the fish, I will fish until I get a limit and take them home to eat, I enjoy fishing but why throw them back and go home empty, take them out and the rest will do better for the future. just my opinion!!

I dont think its really as big of a deal as everyone seems to make it. I personally keep maybe 1 in 15 for the lady to eat. I dont eat them but I dont care if anyone takes them home.

Nice fish BTW.

Hey I didn’t know there were any big bass in Newton[;)] That second pic is awesome…what a nice bass! Was it delicious?

I typically cut big fillets into smaller pieces so they fry up better. I love the taste of crappie the most. I would rank the best tasting panfish: Crappie, Walleye, Perch, Bass, Bluegill. I usually have a huge fish fry for my extended family at least 3 times a year. We have a blast!

Uh Oh waiting for the bass patrol to flame you for keeping it LOL

Nice Catch !!! CONGratz

no wonder you were hesitant to post pics, thats a whopper. I hope i come close to one that big this summer let alone winter. like Sinergy said hold on to your hat!!!

Great Bass, like they say Hook’em & Cook’em.[fishin]

If it’s not a crappie I personally release all of the fish I catch. But what one does with his catch is his own business and should not be judged for doing so. Wether you take a fish home to eat, or take it to the taxidermist either way it doesn’t go back to the water and will have the same effect on the givin body of water. No judgment being given here. Congrats on the nice fish and thanks for sharing the great pics.

Beaut of Bass! What’s the Newton record? You might have been close by the looks of that monster.

I feel the same way…if a person wants to keep his legal limit, that is his or her right. They paid for a license, go for it.

Personally, I catch and release…but I do love to eat fish!

I am not the bass police, but let me make one point. I keep and eat a lot of bass, esp in the spring, when they are firm and sweet. But I have learned from keeping a couple big 'uns like that that the bigger they get, the lower the perportional filet yeild, if that makes sense.

I have no problem with keeping them, or you keeping them, but I have started letting big girls go, because I get more meat from two 2 pounders than from one 4 pounder.

What I want to know is how to catch bass like that through the ice.

Well you are all waiting for this and here i go. LET THE BIG ONES GO THE SMALL ONES ARE BETTER TO EAT ANYWAY. Alright I feel better carry on with the conversation.

Very nice. Crappie are my favorite eating fish as well. I do alot of bass fishing. I rarely keep a bass, but that’s not because I have some big agenda or something. I often take people fishing and they keep bass, it’s their right. Thanks for posting the pics.

Really nice fish … And yup your not alone. Not a lot of white meat fish in Central part of the state. I keep and eat or smoke all the trout I catch. Not into bones but have learned how to de-bone them  Thanks again for the pictures

Well well, I dont mind someone catching and taking home bass but just so we all dont do it all the time. The only time I will take a bass home is if it is going to die. Nothing funner than catching a big bass and then watching them swim away for another day… I would like to fish with lord crappie someday this summer but we would have to talk about letting fish go for another day… I caught many big bass a few years ago down at Lake El Salto in mexico and never once thought about bringing one home for the wall. Lots of pics for memories…

Think what would happen if all us bass guys caught and kept a limit everytime we went out… I think that would put a big dent in the bass population, imagine Jordanelle without many smallmouth bass, not a pretty picture it wouldn’t be fun going to the lakes and not catching any bass, slimers aren’t that fun to catch unless they are really big…

anyway nice fish…

pratice CPR catch, photograph, release…

Aw come on man you just had to come in and spoil everybody’s fun![:p]

By the look on your face you don’t look proud of your keeping that bass just to eat…

I the years to come when you are catching little fish and no bass or very few just remember you ate it, this spring it would have made many more bass for the lake and the lake would have been better fishing for that…

Let the bigger bass go and take the little one to eat if you are that hungry…

Try to get the DWR to plant any LM bass and see the lip they give…

I didn’t spoil it too bad… cheers…
