I’ve been noticing a lack of posting, any fishing reports, on the weekends recently, so I thought I would do a contest for those of you that get out on the weekend and fish. Here is the way it will work, for anyone fishing this weekend only, just post your report, good or bad and you will win a BFT hat. If we have more than one report, that is posted either today or tomorrow, the person that gets the most replies, will win the hat. Looking forward to reading those reports.
Does the weekend include Friday or just Saturday and Sunday?
This contest was only meant for Sat and Sun but you could post your Friday report and if no one post a report for Sat or Sun, then you would for sure be in the running for the hat.
Im happy to post, but Ill tell you my perspective as a relatively unknown newcomer (although Ive been around for a while). There is a group of old timers that have been in here for a while and know each other and seem to comment and reply to each others posts. As someone that most people dont know, I make a post and no one seems interested in it other than an occasional mod who says thanks for posting. So Ive had the impression that unless you can crack the old timers group, you dont get much interest. That being said, I went to the berry on Friday and it was slow but we caught a few quality cutts trolling crankbaits out in the great abyss.
Sorry you feel that way but there really isn’t any old timers code. There is one thing you or anyone needs to remember, being friendly doesn’t involved how old you are or how long you have been on the site. It’s all about communication, and trying to be friendly with other members. Imo, the way to do that is to always reply to a members post, that you read. Myself, I always ask questions as well, because there is always more to a members post, than what you read and even if some info isn’t told in a post, many times I get a response in a PM. Some members don’t want to type it all out but are willing to talk to me on the cell, either by calling or texting. By the way, no mods on this new site. The hats I have been giving away were from the old site, when I was a moderator but they were never given away, I decided they needed a home, so that is reason for the contest. We valved all post and members on the site and hope you enjoy it enough to continue to contribute with your post and replies to other members. I’m going to ask the administrator if there is any chance they would be willing to put up any more BFT gear for contest but I have already talked to the site owner and was told there was no more available but you never know.
not trying to ruffle feathers by any means, I try to join in convos and comment as well. there are just some folks that have been around a while who know each other and generate more interest, just the nature of the beast. Just adding my perspective that this could be a reason more people dont comment or add posts. I still enjoy the site and reading about other peoples outings.
Hopefully I did not come off as a know it all or give you a hard time
I was just trying to give you my prospective, for what it’s worth but I’m sure you are right about those of us that have been doing this for many years, other members get to know us and the same will happen with you, over time.
No disrespect intended or implied, but you’ve been a member since 2008 and have only created 34 threads. And you have 284 posts total. That is not a bad thing. But that isn’t a lot for being on here for 18 years. I, by all means, am not a record holder in either category, but I don’t look for interest in my posts by others. I do reply to some posts to add additional information, ask questions for clarity on some posts, offer advice when I feel it might benefit someone, and offer information that might correct a possible error or falsehood that was posted. I TRY to keep my posts civil when disagreeing with somebody, and ultimately leave the thread before it degrades into mud slinging. Your username is familiar to me but don’t recall if we ever engaged in any conversations over the years. And like others on here, I don’t read every posting. I look at the post subject/title and decide if that subject has anything of interest for me. An example would be any post dealing with Scofield is of no interest to me because I have no desire to drive that far (2 1/2 hours) to fish when I can catch the same fish within an hour of my house.
I don’t post nearly as much as I used to 5 years ago. Comes with age and the fact that I don’t fish nearly as much as I used to back then. It just seems that posting a report that I fished this lake and caught a limit doesn’t add much to the community. If I run into an uncommon problem or see a major change in conditions, I will consider reporting it to the forum to possible benefit other members. I don’t look for replies as a measure of the worthiness of my posts. I mostly just post and move on.
So, ChubbyChaser, post away - or not - and enjoy the forums. Your posts will always be read by some if not by all. ![]()
Hey Chaser, after thinking about your post/point of view, I can see how it could look like an ‘old boys club’. I hadn’t really thought about it before. I know that I have been on BFT since 2006 and I fish quite a bit. In that time I have met by invitation or by coincidence quite a few and fished with quite a few. So when positing about a trip on which I was joined by another BFT member or when responding to a post of someone I have met, I tend to use their real name rather than their BFT name. So yes, I can see how it looks like a club.
That said, I read lots of posts from members that I only know by BFT name here online. Depending on my personal interest of the subject, I may or may not respond. If a question is asked that I think I have helpful information, I may respond.
I hope you feel free to PM me or contact me anytime you think I can help your fishing experience. I have received help from my share of BFT members. I was going to name 1 or 2 but would have to name 15 to 20. Great group. John L
first off if any one fish deer creek or jordanelle in a boat on sat. or sun should get a hat.
Mr. Chaser keep posting tell us how you fish what you use where you fish just teach us how to be better at fishing me I only know one way to fish and that is trolling every one on here, I think know what I no about trolling and how i do it.
No disrespect taken at all. I was a member a long time ago, lost access (forgot my password) for a long time, but was still lurking and then came back and have stuck around through all the updates etc. I have posted infrequently but there was a large gap of no posts in there for a minute due to the above issues. Maybe my trips are boring locations haha, (primarily DC, Jordy, the Berry and scofield) which mean posts of cookie cutter bows and an occasional koke or three. Typically when I post these areas there arent many replies which I assume means people dont care much about these spots, and since these are my main fishing areas, I assume I dont need to make repeated posts about 14" bows that everyone gets too. However, the long timers usually generate a lot of replies from the same kinds of posts, and it appears that they share communication since they know each other. Like I said above, it’s probably just familiarity, and a low frequency of posts from more of us “fringe” members may be explained by this situation. Im going to make an effort to share more, I appreciate hearing back from others and also commenting on their posts so Ill try to increase my frequency. I hope to contribute to the boards and provide tips for my fellow fisherman.
Im in the same “boat”, I enjoy trolling more than anything else and my wife does also so she can nap in the boat in the sunshine.
You are a lucky man that has a wife that will go fishing with you, even if she is just napping.
I am grateful for her company for sure. And some great adult kids that help me launch and handle the boat. She even likes pulling in a fish or two now and then!
That’s awesome, you are indeed a lucky man. I think only you and jig-fisher have their wife’s get out and fish with them.
Sorry been too busy for too long, but just seen this post, are former mods exempt for the contest? If not does it go for future weekends? I may have to go fishing so I can make a post… I really should get out, this time of year is usually fun fishing… Later J
Sorry Jeff, I should have made it clear that the contest is for that weekend only. I only had two caps, the first contest was on the Idaho board , this was the second contest and the last one, unless management comes up with a new supply.
By the way, no more mods, if we have any problems from here on out, we need to contact, theangler.
Thanks Curt, you did say for that weekend only, I was hoping you were going to carry that on to drum up posts… No mods, that’s good to know… Thanks Jeff
