I thought it would be nice if all BFTers use the same channel on a FRS-MRS Radio, even if your fishing in different parts of the U.S. we could all here and learn from each other, and those that do not want to speak or is mic shy can just monitor the channel.
In the past some of us on BFT has used #16 (with no sub channel) some times when we come back from a fishing trip and we put up a post, we later find out that some other BFTer was there also and did not know till reading the post, this way having the same channel we could here and know while on the waters, also FRS-MRS radios are quite cheap, and small, one could put it in the tackel box, also in the event that an emergency happened, some one might be listening, (marine radio is not activly monitored by the local DWR or others,I know because I am on the Davis County EMS-team) So let BFT know what you think of a channel for all BFTers to use and monitor. or if this is or is not a good idea. Your thoughts [;)]
I think this is a great idea
Good luck.
We have tried to do this several times over the years.
Channel 7-0 was used most of the time but very few people leave the radios on, or even bring them.
I got tired of wasting batteries and don’t leave mine on much any more.
Agreed! I tried it back when i joined for a while but burned too many batteries and nobody ever was on the channel.![]()
I always carry a my marine radio and first thing i give out a radio check for the marina and then i put out a bft shout out and never get any response. But i do get other responses from other boats with radios though. It would be nice to meet up with other boats out on the waters and see if they are doing good or bad and help each others out.I think we should try it again since there are a lot of new members .
Hello Guys,
Its a great idea, and maybe the problem before was getting the word out. If you deiced to do it please let me know and I will get it published on the site and promote it, we could even do some banner ads in the forum
My thoughts on it are these: it’s a good idea, it should be promoted, and it should be shown as a sticky at the top of the applicable forums. Channel number should be stressed in the sticky.
That would be a great idea that way its always there for everyone to see. Out of sight out of mind i think it would be to good use for us that carry vhf radios.
so is that like the motorola talkabout type radios?
Not sure what FRS-MRS radio means…[:p] I that the nrmal marine radio channels? If so, I think it’s a great idea. **
** I always monitor 16 for any emergencies, but have a hand held marine radio to monitor another channel also. Pick a channel and let’s get the word out…
