What are the best wacky rig techniques? And what are your favorites?
I’ve read about placing rubber bands on your worm, and running the hook between the worm and rubber band.
I’ve also heard about cutting a piece of tube lure, slipping that over the worm, and running your hook thru both.
Anyone have any more tips?
Here’s one I like, Take a small finishing nail 1/4,3/8, 7/16,1/2,9/16 inch long and put it in the head of the worm. Rig it like you would normally wacky style - hooked through about the middle. Then slowly retrieve it by lifting your rod either upwards or to the either side and slightly up, then only reel in slack as you lower your rod, as it sinks,try to keep your line taut, but not too tight and get ready - the fish will inhale it. The weight of the nail makes the worm do a head stand on the bottom with your hook in the middle and the tail of the worm waving very naturally above it. Try it out at home in a glass container, sink or your bath tub and see how it works. It will generate a lot of strikes, as it looks incredibly natural. You will like the results.
I agree. I have watched pineview fisher use this presentation on sever different waters and conditions, and he out fishes me consistently.
How I like to rig it is.
Take and find a rubber o ring that fits tite on the worm or sink-o and put the o-ring in the center of the bait and put the hook around the o-ring so you have the o-ring hooked.
And fish it with out weigh.
Where do you pick up your O rings? I’ve seen them around but never looked for them in bulk. Have you seen any other colors than black?
Most of your bearing and seal distributors, and industrial supply stores have them in bulk. Kaman on 24th street, west Ogden is one of the cheapest places for O-rings.
Hydrapak Seals @ 3782 W. 2340 S. in W. Valley sells them & those smaller sizes like that are really cheap.
Try Harbor Fright. They sell a box of 250 or maybe 500 for next to nothing.
