Every week I hear Mark Sosin talking about his knot video, saying the knot is the critical link between you and the fish. I don’t think it matters once you get over 20 lb line if the knot is 80% strength or 90%. My got to knot is the Uni I use it for line to line, tying all terminal tackle, and even for lures. If you could use only one knot what would you choose?
Though I like the double uni knot, I only use it to join lines of the or a similar OD. I like a Stren knot for joining line, like Fluorocarbon to Braid.
Other than that, if I had to choose, it would be a polimer knot. It’s easy, fast in all conditions on all lines, and retains the bulk of the line strength. I like simple and effective.

Great question by the way. The knot I used to use most before learing the Uni know was the Improved clinch. Since going to Power Pro line for all my off shore lines and using heavy terminal tackle. I’ve learned the uni and when the weather permits… I’ll get out to try it and report my success and failures.
