Went to the berry on Sunday. Started fishing at Mud Creek at 7:15. We jigged up and down that whole dang inlet with very few fish. We then went to Haws Point and fished till 3:30. Few fish there also. Last year I boated 38 before noon, don’t know what I am doing wrong.
I guess I need to get a boat with a motor and a fish finder? We were using white tube jigs. Anyone have any suggestions?
All in all the kids hung in there and didn’t get cold so I can’t complain too much!
I am in the exact same boat as you - one that is really not a boat without a fish finder. Last year I did much better at the Berry - I can only manage to land between 3-10 fish per trip per person compared to about 20 last year. I don’t know how all the guys are doing the 100 fish days this year. I use tube jigs, lucky crafts and other rapala’s but the Berry has been much slower for me this year. Maybe we can get one of these professional Berry fishermen to take us out and show us how to do it.
Thanks for the info. Renegade is where I caught all the fish last year. I must have just been in the right spot. I fished that same spot this year, but at the end of Oct. with little success. What do you guys think about the full moon effect? The last two times I have fished the berry there was a full moon, and the fishing was slow.
Green was the color of the day. I was at Renegade on Sunday, and was also using white tubers and couldn’t catch anything. So, out of desperation, I switched to a green tube jig. I think I caught one on my third cast, and many more after that. I generally do just fine on the whites, but when that isn’t working it can be as simple as changing color. BTW, I inadvertently left my fish finder at home (except for the transducer that’s mounted to the boat[pirate]) so it’s not a necessity. However, it does let you know if you’re just spinning your wheels in any particular area.
