I just called the lodge and asked if I could still launch a boat. They said “No. Yesterday a sheet of ice covered the ice in the bay and today snow is sitting on the ice.”
Just fished Strawberry bay in a side cove. Will post a full report later but wanted to warn everyone to be careful. The ice is 1-1.5 inches of soft stuff for the most part. We found a cove with 5 good inches and did well, but literally 3 feet from us the ice was only 1 inch. BE CAREFUL!!
How much snow is there up there? In three weeks I will have lots of time to fish. Jacksonman, I want to hook up with you guys and fish somewhere!!
I am hoping to go out tomorrow. do you think CCW would be the safest bet? From most reports it seems like it has been the thickest ice so far. does anyone have a report on CCW lately? I dont want to risk it too much going out, but would like to go give it a shot.[;)]
Are they plowing the road down to Chicken Creek or do you have to park across the highway?
Let me know when you want to go and we’ll figure out a time and a place.
There was tons of snow on shore, from 12-30 inches. Snow on the ice is a different story - it depends on when the ice formed. There was no snow in the new thin ice but up to 12 inches on the older ice.
The best ice is on Mud Creek and CCW but I would imagine by now that CCE is petty safe and Strawberry Bay and the Ladders should be by this weekend. I might go back up next week.
Be sure to post your reports
