hit the bear monday night into tuesday morning… fishing was good, caught 8 cats from 24 to 30 inches… fished from 2am until ten am ( i work swing shift ) when the sun came up we each reeled in one of the cat setups and put out the ultralight rods and my buddy got his biggest to date!! 20ish pounds!![:p] ok so its not a cat.. but nothing is funner that catching these fish on a 5ft rod and 4lb line… enjoy the pics…

That is a ton of fun, my friend and I used to do it all the time down in the ponds and canals around Utah Lake. The only thing that is more fun, is catching them on a 6wt fly rod. They rip you into your backing on the first run sometimes

Do you find the fishing to be better in the main river channel or one of the side channels? And closer or further from the refuge dam? I’ve been doing okay in one of the side channels, but you definately catch more big’uns.

i have never caught a cat over 4lbs out of the canals… and i fish everywhere from corrine all the way out to the dam… and i even fish a wee bit further [;)]
stick with the main river channel.. and be persistant…just because a promising looking bend or hole doesnt produce one night , dont be afraid to hit it two or 3 more times… the cats are very hit and miss out there… some nights they are on… other nights they just arent!!! there are large cats in every hole i have ever fished… just had to be there when they wanna bite!
