With the river open, how warm does it need to get before the kittys get active?
I’m not sure of the exact temps but they and the walleye seem to become active during the first of march. Actually walleye could be caught now. Thinking about it they both spawn early spring so i would guess the walleye would be going on a prespawn feeding frenzy soon and the channels soon after.
Walleye in the bear? I didn’t know that…where is the best place to catch them?
very few know and very few tell!!! i have heard the closer to cutler dam the better.
Yes, walleye in the bear. The smallmouth are doing well also. Caught a dozen or more between 1 and 3lbs last year. wouldn’t really say the closer to cutler the better cause i’ve managed to pull them out of the river with more regularity. Dont get me wrong the biggest I’ve ever caught came out of the cutler area but they are more spread out. It was 28" and about 9lbs.
I love the bear river man! Its the most under utilized and looked over water in Cache. Most people look at its stained water and drive right past, with thoughts of yellow bellies and carp. Not me! The second biggest largemouth, the biggest channe lcat, the biggest walleye, and the biggest crappie I’ve ever caught came out of the bear.
Yes, very few know and I will always tell.
If I was serious about catching Walleye from the Bear in Cache Valley I would get a boat and throw it in near the Benson Church and either go up river or down until I found a good hole near a bend in the river. I would run a swim bait, jig or worm through the hole a couple of time and see what is there and then move on to the next hole until I found the fish. Spring through fall are good.
For Cats I would find a slough off of the main river channel that has a good inlet outlet to the river and I would fish in that channel. April through June is a good time to try this. Use whatever you like to use for cats. Good Luck!
I like your style KJFN!
not many monster cats in that river… you would be better off heading south.
The monsters are all down below cutler.
