Bear Lake's GONE!!!

Ok so we all know that’s never gonna happen; not in our lifetime at least.

My buddy somehow talked me into going up to bear lake after school. Granted talking me into going fishing is easier than filling a kiddie pool with a fire hose. Only thing we caught were these two sweet pics. Didn’t help that the battery was dead for the kota and we forgot the anchor.

There was a heavy cloud layer over the whole valley. The first picture is from the sunrise scenic outlook as you just get out of the canyon, looking at where Garden City should be. The second we took just before we got into the cloud. It was crazy, it just shot up like a wall instead of spilling out to a certain altitude.

Just thought you’d all like the pictures.

Yep. Thats a nasty old blanket up there. usually happens every year and traps the cold in. Sure makes it miserable staying in it.

what was the temp over there, and did you see many sisco fishing

Well boys, the cisco run is over (at Cisco Beach at least). I netted a few fish through the ice yesterday morning, but they were far and few between. Now don’t get too excited because the ice is not thick enough to stand on. There is still about 40% open water on the lake, but since there has been no wind the ice has been forming. Its only been getting down to about 7-8 degrees, not nearly cold enough to lock the lake up quickly. With the storm that is supposed to hit tonight, the ice will likely get blown off…again! However, this morning it is a balmly +6, foggy, and no wind once again. Guess we’ll have to wait and see. FYI, the marina is partiall frozen and you CANNOT launch boats there at this time. Yes, the deicers are running, but its just been cold enough to freeze it pretty solid along the ramp. Yesterday you could still launch a boat a the Cisco Beach ramp, but there is a bunch of “pack ice” floating around which makes fishing really difficult from a boat since the ice catches your line and shoves the boat all over the place. The guys who have been going out (mostly local-yocals) have been doing really well for cutthroat. If you could get off the weedbeds by the pump house or just south of Gus Rich Point the whitefish should be in eating cisco eggs. I saw one boat at Cisco Beach yesterday but never asked how they did. Hope that helps for an update.

Where is Gus Rich point?

Those are some eery pics, but pretty. Can you launch a boat from the state marina yet? Getting eager to get into some macs.
Tired of ice come on open water!!!

you can launch at cisco beach
