There are still no cisco showing up at Cisco Beach as of Thursday morning. This is not unusual on an “open water” year. The run typically begins on Jan 20th +/- 5 days, so we are due for the shore run to begin soon. I checked some anglers on the rockpile today (hey, the fog was not as thick today!) and they were able to jig (snag) limits of cisco in about an hour. That is fast action. The lake has a lot of skim ice (1/4"-3/8" thick) so going can be tough in a fiberglass boat! The ice will eat your keel/hull up. Aluminum boats should have no problems. Most people are launching from shore near Gus Rich Point or Ideal Beach. Ideal Beach will charge a couple of bucks to get though their gate, but its worth it. Make sure to bring a compass and/or GPS since the fog has been thick and you simply can’t see far enough to get out there. The guy next to me was using a tube tipped with cisco and was catching cutthroat trout. The guys jigging cisco were using castmasters/jigging spoons. Make sure that you are not using snag hooks (i.e. M-60’s) with the weight ridgidly attached to the hook’s shank (see the fishing guide for more info). Also, drop shotting with a multipoint hook is illegal too, unless the hook is on an unweighted dropper line. Watch your limits of cisco, there will be officers checking throughout the run! Finally, this goes without saying but no party fishing for limits either. Come up, have fun, be safe and stay legal.
Thanks for the report.. Do you think the lake will ice over this year ?
I will be at cisco beach daylight sunday, anybody want to place bets on the first w/ their limit.![]()
More than likely not.
ok I dont give a damb just trying to make it a little more interesting than the ever so wonderful “cisco disco” that everyone is so proud of
.
Are you going to hold the Cisco fish fry again this year? If so do you have any ideas on the date?
Doug Miller started the cisco disco. The last few years though, its been our Bear lake fish guy, his family and Jim Stone, along with a few others that have carried on this little tradition over there at the beach so that folks could come and have a great time and see what the little fish tasted like rather than just useing them for bait. The food, hospitality and friendships are great.
I for one have appreciated very much what Scott, Jim and families have done over there each year. I cant make it up this year, besides I still have some from last year.
Thanks Scott for the great job you have done with the past gatherings and all you do for us Bear lakers. [;)]
Yeah, i’ll bet ya $10 you don’t get a limit.[:p]
