Fished the weekend series on saturday. It was the first time I was able to get on the lake in a long time. I guess the only way I can force myself to make time for fishing is to pay an entry fee. emoLaugh <br /><br />To say it was hot is an understatement. Heat index at weigh in was 112 degrees. As always, tournament director Randy Sullivan did a great job of taking care of the fishermen as well as the fish. He supplied lots of ice cold water, a nice mist system, and fans to help cool the crowd as well as the fishermen. Sure made weigh in easier for an old guy like me.<br /><br />The lake level is still down a foot and a half from where it should be. We're in drought conditions and simply can't get enough rain to fill up the river. Water clarity is clear, there's basically no current, and water temp was 85 degrees.<br /><br />The winning weight was 23 lbs mostly caught on a 3/4 oz white spinner bait fished in about 15' water on ledges on the main lake.<br /><br />For me I fished a hump about mid way back in a creek. A little odd for the dog days of summer but the fish were there. Since I didn't get to pre-fish I gambled on the chance I maybe could catch the tail end of the night feeding that a lot of ky lake bass do this time of year. What surprised me was how long the fish feed after the sun got up higher in the sky. Usually you have about an hour after sunrise that the fish will remain active, then it shuts down. But on saturday they bit well till about 8:30 which gave me enough time to get a limit. I fished a green punking baby brush hog on a finesse jig head along the deeper side of the hump. The hump is about 10' deep on top dropping to 16 feet off the side. We caught fish both on top and on the deeper part. I had almost 16 pounds but with the dead fish penalty I ended up closer to 15 lbs. Still good enough for a 9th place finish. My co-angler also limited out with just under 8 lbs for 3 fish. He caught his on a carolina rig creature bait in green punkin.<br /><br />It was a hot hot day but a good day on the lake. emoAngler
