Another Lincoln Beach report

Hit the beach at 6:30 this morning in my boat. Went around to the west toward the hot springs and up close to the reeds. I was using carp meat fished on the bottom in about two feet of water. Threw the first line out and turned to rig the second pole and almost lost my first pole. Neglected rule number one: leave bail open. Caught a nice 5 or 6 pounder. Action was fast and I had two fish on at the same time on two occasions. Nothing really big but a lot of fun. I was alone and at a disadvantage when the cats employed their favorite defensive tactic of ring-around-the-anchor-rope. Lost 4 or 5 while trying to hold pole with one hand, lift anchor with other hand, and man the net with the other hand. I’ll be back tomorrow with a load of kids. Should be fun.

Carp were showing considerable enthusiasm for doing their thing. Would like to have caught one to restore bait reserves.

Nice day, only a few boats out and a few bankers. The power boaters were starting to show up when I left around 8:00. They will probably be out in force tomorrow. I plan to be there at daylight and outa’ there before the boaters get there.

Bugs are not too bad yet. Water was calm. I used my electric to work in to about three feet of water. No prop killers today.

Took one picture and tried to attach. Hope it comes through. Caught 8 and ejected seven of them from the live well at the dock. Number 8 had some health issues and will be consumed this evening on the grill.

Catin’ is probably going to get better every day for the next couple of weeks at least.

Go get 'em.

Thanks for the report. How is the water looking? Pretty murky or more clear (clear, of course being relative to UL)? Also, anything else hit other than cats? Thanks again.

Utah lake water is only one color to me. I guess it was “relatively” clear after a pretty calm night. The carp were visable but then they had their backs out of the water.

Never had any other interest in my carp meat that I was aware of. Had a couple of weak bites that could have been mudders or white bass. Did see some guys catching a few whites of the end of the launch channel.

Pretty stiff wind blowing right now. Not sure if that will have a negative effect on my trip
in the morning or not. If it’s blowin’ I won’t be there. Hopefully the wind will calm down tonight and we will have a calm morning. Hope so.

Best to ya,
