Bummer!
Hope the late season runs are better

Ya things up here are really twisted now with the closure. We’re just hoping the Kasilof Fish start showing up strong, or the kenai fish do and it opens back up. Right now the Kasilof is full of Kasilof AND Kenai guides, with numbers already low it makes for really tough fishing. From one spot on the Kasilof yesterday I could count 38 boats, in 2 holes.

So how is your guiding job coming along?

It’s going great but would be even better if the Kings would start showing up better. I really like the company I work for, they sure have the business figured out, and are great people.
The last few days have been looking up…the king counts on the Kenai jumped from about 30 on thursday to 165 friday and 266 yesterday. Seems they might just be a bit late. If they continue to pile in like that it could get re-opened and my job on the Kasilof would get a lot better. Right now we cannot keep any wild kings on the Kasilof, hatchery fish only. If it doesn’t get better I imagine they will close the Kasilof soon due to huge pressure and low returns.

Thom, the numbers are finally going up, 572 yesterday. Could it just be a late run? If so will they reopen the Kenai. Can’t wait to get up there next month.

I think it is just late, i’ve been watching close and comparing it to previous years, I think they will reopen soon. Despite the huge crowd of boats on the Kasilof the last few days have been getting a lot better and we’ve been catching some really nice fish.

My take is it’s off by a couple weeks this year. I got friends at Deep Crk out the Dutch Harbor and it looks like everything is just running a few weeks late. Positive thoughts!!!
