Finally was able to fulfill my lifetime dream. I booked a hunt with my son to South Africa. My son’s buck list animal was crocodile and mine was Cape buffalo. We booked with Leeuwkop hunting safaris and what a great choice it was. We started the trip off with different kinds of plains game and then moved to the dangerous stuff. I was the first to score on a giant Cape buffalo. I can’t describe how I felt other than pure adrenaline. My buffalo stretched the tape at 44 1/2 inches. It was one of the most exciting hunts of my life. The bull absorbed 3 of my 458 win mag 500 grain bullets and didn’t even act hit. After we celebrated my bull we turned our attention to the dinosaurs of Africa and spent the next 3 days trying to outsmart one. There senses are unbelievable, sight, hearing and feeling vibration in the ground, amazing animals. My son finally scored on a 12’ male. He used a 300 win with 200 grain bullets to do the job. Africa is an amazing place. If it’s on your bucket list do it.
Wow, what an amazing hunt for some awesome animals, that most of us can only see in pics and wildlife shows. Congrats on you and your sons success, the guide makes all the difference in being successful. Hope you have a big trophy room for all those heads. From what I have read, those cape buffalo are some tough animals and they cannot be taken lightly but it sounds like you were well equipped for them.
