Last year my goal was to get my 1st wiper. It took about 15 tries to get one. (After I got one then had 4 more unsuccessful trips but at least I made it.).
POST YOUR 2011 GOALS AND LETS EVALUATE IN DECEMBER!
My goal - catch a 5lb catfish
catch a 5lb trout
get my 1st musky
To have an overall safe/uneventful time on the water with no boat/motor issues or being overly terrorized by rec boaters
Ops check new equipment/tackle/lures with successful hookups
Get my Son and Daughter along with her boyfriend on their first Tiger Musky
Successful Willard Walleye trips
…but the ultimate goal is to bust the questionable RJ TM record…missed it by 2.5"…some-day, some-year, some-time…called living and executing the 3Ps on this ‘ultimate’ goal/quest
My fishing goals include:
Catch at least one walleye, and some white bass (I have never caught any white bass)
Fish 10 different lakes/ reservoirs and 4 streams - so far I have 7 lakes/ reservoirs and 1 stream.
Your ultimate goal is an easy one: just do what good ol rj does and bull sh*t it.
every year it makes.me happier and happier to see his name replaced with someone else.
My goals are simple. #1- fish more than I have the last couple years. #2- become more adroit with a bait caster. #3- ul largemouth #4- wiper of any size #5- place in the top 25 at the bullfrog open buddy tourney

In the immortal words of Derek Smalls {Spinal Tap}
Perfection is a destination
Imperfection is the journey
All I know is it’s a journey for me, every time!
To learn to detect a bit and set a hook. (just the basic stuff right, simple enough!)
Hit more waters, and different types. Learn to target more species.
To catch: Walleye - Phat Cats - Musky on the rod WITH the steel leader!
To try: night fishing, fly fishing - not necessarily at the same time!
To use: More of the massing of lures, tubes, cranks, and jigs I’ve collected. And use them for catching FISH, not decorating xmas trees on the bottom of the lake! lol
…well just to put it in real perspective the ahhhh the ‘da’ WOMEN who have become students of this fish…
Don’t raise an eyebrow…some folks talk about fish’n we two ole gals FISH…and no better fish to go after in Utah in our honest opinion but the fish were all others are just…B-A-I-T.
We’ve learned a WHOLE lot and have a great deal of RESPECT for this species plus what the the Utah DWR has invested to keep them coming…
Now heres another video of those we lost…wrong tackle…lessons learned by us…boy have we learned what to do and what not to do to…a fish to be prepared for and if one wants to be serious and not a bucket list angler…well you’ll know…only takes becoming a student and appreciation for this fish.
Catch a Tiger Musky on a Buzzbait. This was my goal last year I just didn’t get to spend enough time at the 'view. I had 3 hook ups and 3 shake offs last year. I’ve caught them trolling and by accident on my crappie rig but the excitement level when one of those badboys breaks the surface to take the spinner is just off the chart! I just need to set the hook better and get em close enough to take a picture.
Catch a Wiper at Willard. Another hold over from last year. Its a little harder for me as I don’t have a boat (that I feel safe in at Willard in the summer) to troll for them but with enough marabou’s under bobbers and shad imitations I’m bound to run into one eventually.
Find a good balance between being a newlywed and a fisherman. The big day is June 4th (prime musky fishing) and while she’s pretty good about letting me out to fish frequently, I’m sure she’ll want to see me every now and then.
Just like every year for the last 3 years, my goal is to finally catch a walleye out of Cutler. Also, since I caught my 10 lb cat last year, I want one over 15 from that water this year.
Last year will be hard to top for me. I always had a goal of catching as many fish as the number of the year, and I finally did it last year. I actually passed it by a bit and ended with 2049 fish for the year. I also broke a long standing size record for largemouth, several times, and I also beat my smallmouth record which had stood just as long.
Still, there were some goals I didn’t make.
Catch a musky on the fly
Try Willard for wipers
Catch a 10lb catfish (I only made it to 5lb last year)
