7/31 Utah Lake walleye and gills

Started fishing in east bay about 7am enjoying the relatively cool air. I decided to leave the cats alone and try for some panfish. The cats had a different idea and twice grabbed jigs hanging straight down next to me.

I did find some scappy little whities and bluegills including these two bruisers destined for lunch. The biggest one grabbed a 3 inch Kalin I was tossing for walleye. The walleye took a smallish spinner I was using for bluegill!

One of the best things about fishing Utah Lake is the variety of fish you might catch on just about any bait or lure. I caught one little whitie that was just barely bigger than the 3 inch grub he nailed.

It’s kind of fun trying to guess what you’ve hooked by the way they fight. Some of the little guys put up a battle way out of proportion to their size, especially on light gear. And when you hook something big, that light gear makes for an exciting contest.

Anyone finding crappie these days? I haven’t had much success where I usually find them.

Nice gills and eye!! The crappies are a little hard to find right now, but some are still in standard locations… Reeds and docks. We caught a few in those locations last time out. We also caught a bunch trolling for white bass in mid lake…dont know how, or why…no structure @ all, but they were there. I bet i cant do that again tho, just one of those random things.

Find the big weed beds out in the main lake, 8-10ft. Then troll or bobber fish in and around them. Also, find the transition from hard bottom to soft bottom and work that zone. Everything is picking off the midges as they emerge off the bottom of the ooz !!!
