I’ll admit i’m one lucky bugger and I iced my first musky today! I’ve targeted musky for years through the ice and finally today I got one. I was thick in the perch in about 12 ft of water and pulled my musky rig up and dropped down another perch rod. I was up to 19 keeper perch and was cleaning up my stuff when i hooked him! It took me 20 minutes to ice him with 2lb test on my ultra-light perch rod…it didn’t help that I only had about 20-25 yards of line on that rod and he had me so close to spooled 3 times…I could count how many turns I had left before he busted me! He also crossed up my other rod and I had a huge mess of tangled line to sort through. I caught it on the smallest little rat-finkee i have. I was astonished that my line never crossed his teeth! He was 36" i can’t imagine what a 50" would feel like! What a good time!!!
My 3rd picture shows him next to my bigger ice rod that is 33.5" to the tip of the spring bobber…so i’d estimate him at 36-37".
That is awesome! Well done bud. I don’t do alot of ice fishing but I do know that getting a muskie through the hole is quite the feat. Thanks for the pics.
Tmas!!
Dude I am soooo jealous. That is a real nice fish, congrats. Give me a call if you are hitting any Utah lakes up again this season. Oh yea, this is Kurt by the way.

Newton is just around the corner from where I live. A good place to take the kids for croppie but I have never tried for the muskies. I have heard of guys fishing mid to northern end of the resivoir for them but have not tried because I would not even know what to throw at them in an attempt.
What kind of lures are being used on these bad boys?
