Junies? Seems like nothing can get done on Utah Lake without bringing in the Junies. I heard there was a poor spawn this year…due to low runoff and hordes of carp up in the river at the “wrong time”. I also wonder how the surviving Junettes fared in the low warm lake water…and with the algae bloom. It sure put a hurtin’ on the young white bass.

**Last year I was tubing on Willard before the end of February. Most years the lower elevation ponds are opening by the first or second week of March. Higher elevation lakes vary widely…depending upon temperatures and winds.

**Just another thought. What happens when someone else shows up after you have taken all the forms? Or if someone shows up after a big weekend and the box is empty from heavy traffic? There have been more than a few guys who have found the box empty and not put a form in their window…only to come back and find a ticket on their vehicle.
Part of the purpose of the quiz is to educate the boating public and keep them informed of changes and updates in the regulations.

Got mine done. I prefer using the certification copy on my dash. I’ve seen, sadly, the box at Lincoln vandalized too many times. To the extent that my Alzheimers permits I always have mine on my dash and in my boat. I’ve seen lots of trucks without certification copies in their trucks but have never seen one with a citation. Still, better safe than sorry.
Just wonderin… I have g-kids who take their kayaks out on the lake to fish. I assume they need certification too since kayaks do “float.”?? How 'bout licensure and insurance for kayaks? I might have to look that one up in the regs.
And, by the way, I am going to claim copyright infringement on that avatar of yours. I know you use that pic just to remind me that you pulled that 30 incher right out from under my nose… in my boat… and if I remember right, using my bait. Very unsportsmanlike of you.

Hey, I’m sorry about that fish. It heard your boat and figured any bait it picked up would probably be yours. Stupid fish. Like some people they just assume too much.
Invasive species certs? The rule is that if it floats you gotta sign a form or have a permanent one displayed on your dash. A good idea to have a copy on board too. No need for registration and license unless you add a motor…even an electric one.
Looking forward to chasin’ some finny critters with ya again this year. This has gotta be your year again. Those fish didn’t play very nice for you last year.

They have already started releasing more water from Deer Creek and it looks like they might be drawing Jordanelle down to make room foir the run off.
I am not condoning mussels but what has happened in thetruttast great lakes and many other bodies of water..i just know what I see havasu and mead have increased fish production and mohavie is the deal
..salmon dived for a year it was scarey for the salmo but they are bacl..eyes going 15 pounds smallies pushing the world record.. the hipe is trying to get you to pay more for the water …

**I have also heard the reports of improved water clarity and improved fishing in some infested waters. But the concern is not so much about the fishery as the damage mussels do to pipes, turbines and other equipment. They clog up the works and are very expensive to clean out.

**Not saying what you do is wrong…as long as there are plenty in the box at the time. Just saying that for MOST people it works better to have a permanent form to put in the window of your vehicle. As others have mentioned, there are a lot of times you get to the lake and the box is empty…or vandalized.
The important thing is that everybody is aware of the potential problem and is careful to avoid doing anything to spread the mussels. This program is not just some “busywork” thing to hassle anglers.

I agree it is extremely important to not spread any mussels and the program is just not ‘busy work’. On the flip side, I still find it hard to believe that a positive sample was found at D.C. over two years ago and nothing since. I am not a conspiracy theorist type of guy but a positive sample two years ago/no positive samples since/at a super popular lake extremely close to our biggest metropolitan area, is then used to raise our reg fees and ‘teach’ us boaters a lesson is very suspicious.
On the flip side of the flip side, maybe I AM a conspiracy theorist!
It probably would not bother me as much if all water users/possible mussel transporters had to help foot the bill.
I can’t wait for the warning to be lifted off of D.C. next year so I can get a midweek fishing itch scratched at DC then head to Jordanelle or Starvy on sat.
**The understanding I have…after a couple of conversations with DWR folks…is that all of the “vilegers” (larvae) were found in one small area near the dam. None elsewhere in the lake. The theory is that a wakeboard boat that had been on Powell dumped its ballast tank in that one spot. It was not determined whether the little critters were already dead when taken in the sampling. We hope they were.
Thankfully, no other evidence…larvae or adults…has been found since. So optimistically Deer Creek will resume “clean” status this fall.

It just doesn’t quite pass the smell test but what is done is done, right…
