I’m always amazed at the number of trout that are planted throughout the state. Do they not reproduce well on their own? Are they mostly harvested by fishermen, or do alot of them get eaten by other fish? The numbers planted in Strawberry alone are incredible.
Some stocking programs include an enormous number of fish because of the high mortality of the planters. A lot become food for the larger fish that are already established in the specific body of water.
It is a fish feeding excersize when the planters are small like fry or fingerlings. Some do survive to become large fish and even reproduce, but most of the planters that people catch were stocked as larger fish to begin with.
