I just find it entertaining that year, after year, after year we have people that get excited and start asking whether or not there is ice at Fish Lake -- usually we get the first one just after Thanksgiving.
I understand the excitement. I really do. I get anxious myself. The discussions lately in my family have centered around whether or not we'll have ice by New Year's. It's a typical concern we have every year. And yet, there has only been 1 year that I can recall in which we could not fish some ice at Fish Lake by New Year's.
If I were a betting man, I'd say that ice will go on the lake between Christmas and New Year's. I wouldn't even make an inquiry prior to Christmas. I guess if you really, really, really, wanted to ice fish Fish Lake prior to Christmas you could go drill some holes in the marina and fish there. That's actually not such a bad idea....
