Anyone have a report on ice at fish lake? Is there open water to fish there?

When I called them about a week ago they said the harbors were already iced and only launch was at twin creeks. Judging by temperatures I'm sure more is frozen now.
I was wanting an update too so let me know if you find anything out. I'm itching for some hard deck.

I'm really itching to get on Fish Lake. It's been cold lately, and with the elevation of that lake it should be just about capped, shouldn't it?
We should all call the DWR in the southern region office and ask them if Fish Lake is frozen yet.
I'll try to dig up a number and get it posted for us all. I would guess that the more calls they get, the sooner we'll know if the lake is capped or not.

I just talked to someone at fish lake lodge.
They said not enough ice to fish, closer to Christmas is more typical. Still with those low temperatures I can't see it being long...

I think we should call again next week and see if we can get another update. These cold temps will certainly have that lake frozen before Christmas. Why in the world would they think it won't be until Christmas? Does Santa bring ice to Fish Lake??

Fished it on Saturday. Freezing cold, but Twin Creeks fished well for rainbow trout with leeches tailed by midges/nymphs. Either under an indicator or retrieved at a moderate speed. With the amount of wind that place gets you'll need more cold temps for a little while longer. Harbors were all frozen as well, but we didn't see any on the main lake.

Fish lake is very deep so it takes longer than other lakes at that elevation to cap. Some years we get early ice but most years it caps around the 1st week of January.
