[#0000FF]Simple math and biology. Two years of heavy publicity, heavy fishing pressure and heavy harvest will have consequences.
The pike got off to a good start after the drain and fill thing but had very little angler interest until DWR and the local media boys ramped up the coverage...and encouraged maximum harvest. Yuba is not a big lake and it is not a classic pike lake...with lots of structure and abundant forage species. Plenty of carp but not prime pike chow.
Some of the knowledgeable pike pokers predicted that the population would take a hit. Looks like they may have been right.
Still a lot of pike left in Yuba...but not as many dumb ones. Those that weren't taken home got a lesson in what to avoid. Not like the early days of wide open gullibility.
The upside is that now maybe the walleyes and the new perch plants might have a chance.
