Leaky, I have never met you or had the honor of fishing with you... but I always appreciated your reports and it always put a 
on my face thinking about you and that old dog trudging up and down the river... doing what you both love...
It's one of the hardest things we have to do, and that is saying goodbye to our best friends... canine and human. We are never ready to say goodbye to our best friends, even when they have lived a long and happy life... It is no easier, even when you know it is coming... you can't prepare yourself for that kind of hurt.
It sounds to me like you and that pup have raised hell together for the past 10+ years and both of you were lucky to have one another.
