The Henry's Fork Has been Awesome!
#14
I headed up to Ashton with my wife and we fished the Henry's Fork also. We started below the dam, but levels were a lot higher than I was expecting. My wife doesn't have waders so it made access difficult for us.

We hopped back in the car and headed up to Fishman's Lane, right where the highway passes over the river before heading up to Island Park. We didn't touch a fish in the 3 hours we were there. At first we tried nymphing, dropping various beadheads off of a rubber legs. Nothing. We saw several NICE fish rising occasionally. The only thing coming off were small, small caddis. So we tried throwing a small parachute adams. Nothing. 4-5 drift boats came cruising by; some were nymphing, others stripping streamers, and some were throwing salmon flies. So we switched to a salmon fly pattern and tried to entice those big trout to rise again. Again, nothing! I had a few different patterns, too, and we couldn't convince 'em. Oh the joys of fly fishing! Any advice, though, on what we might do differently next time we head up that direction? I'm stumped. I guess I should have brought the proverbial kitchen sink!
