Lake Lowell - Monday 4/18
#1
It was amazing what a few half days of sun did to water temperatures on Lake Lowell. Friday the warmest water I could find was right at 50 degrees. Today, the sun broke out just after lunch and I headed for the ramp. When I turned on my depth finder I read 53 degrees at the launch ramp. I decided to head for some shallow flats to see if any fish had moved into really shallow water. As I pulled into an open flat I found water temperatures to be 57-59 degrees and the fish were there. I covered the water very thoroughly several times and ended up catching 17 very fat largemouth between 12-17”. It was a great afternoon.

I was planning to head for another flat, but the lake was rolling in whitecaps, so I called it an afternoon. I had fished for 2-½ hours and found fish in water from 6” to 3’. Best baits for me were a Black/Blue Chatterbait, a pearl Swimming Senko, and blue/black flake 4” Yum Wooly Curltail (no longer made). However, I believe they could have been caught on almost anything that was presented properly, for the fish were very active.
