From my experience they are usually in the deeper holes, not necasarrily the deepest spot there is but deeper water. There are times of year they move into the shallows. I have done good in early mornings in the shallows around 6 to 8 feet but then when the sun comes up they go deeper. A lot of it deepends on time of year and also location you are fishing.
