Anglers Needed To Study Fatal Muskie Disease
#1
LANSING, MI—Michigan fisheries officials are asking anglers for help in a project to learn more about Piscirickettsia salmonis, a fatal muskie pathogen recently discovered in Lake St. Clair.

On September 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., St. Clair anglers are encouraged to bring live muskies and northern pike to a holding tank at the Mt. Clemens Fisheries Research Station, located at the mouth of the Clinton River.

Officials hope to collect 20 muskies and pike with the disease's characteristic red lesions, as well as five healthy fish and five with live lampreys attached to them.
