I have know for years it is not good around petroleum bass material. FLY LINE in particular. It is of course DEET that is the problem. There is other insect repellent that does not contain DEET, although it is probably the most proven.
Think about what it does to plastic.....and you are putting it on your skin and it is being absorbed into your body.
I look for more user friendly means. And those handhelds do a pretty go job.
