I've learned everything I know about Metalheads from the locals, all nice and helpful. When I fish the North Fork I usually stay under the power lines. The base of the dam is a different story. If you need schooling in combat fishing, you can get it there. At times it's better than a three ring circus. I've seen fights and threats and watched a guy get totally bytch slapped [pirate] by a big logger chick he got in the way of. When it's hot & busy, they usually stand in line (up to 30 deep) waiting to cast their bobbers and walk the drift down the railing. The longer the cast usually gets better results. When a fish is hooked, It's fought from the railing and netted by someone 20 ft below off the cement steps at water level.
Last spring a guy was renting his 14ft surfcasting rod out at $10.00 a cast. The chinook were all podded up at the far corner about 120 yrds off the railing. We watched a super long cast into that corner and that bobber was down and under in less than 20 seconds.
OK, so I ebayed a surfcaster[crazy] but haven't tried it out yet[:p]
