How do you rig your anchovies?

Ive casted into a boil with a shad lure with no hookups then casted into the boil with a lime green sinker & anchovies soon as it hit the bottom I was catching tons of sm 5" stripers. I think the smaller ones sit on the bottom of boils and pick up the shad scraps left behind from the topwater action. But Ive also heard the opposite big lazy ones sittin on the bottom just letting the carcuss float down to em.
