How do you rig your anchovies? - 4poundonly - 10-01-2010 Just curious How do you rig your anchovies/sardines?[cool] [signature] Re: [4poundonly] How do you rig your anchovies? - syncityangler - 10-01-2010 i usually chunk mine up or fillet them while tryin to keep them frozen... something almost imposible to do in the desert. or sometimes i rig a whole chovie/dino up on a mooching rig and toss it out there with 2 oz's of lead big bait, big fish right? yeeeeah... i'm yet to confirm that theory though lol [signature] Re: [4poundonly] How do you rig your anchovies? - lvrider - 10-01-2010 I think the Whizzle posted a really good post on how he rigs his sardines. or maybe it was just a post on the diff between sardines and anchovies. I think he may have actually posted both. It tells you both: the difference between the two and how to rig them [signature] Re: [syncityangler] How do you rig your anchovies? - 4poundonly - 10-01-2010 I hear ya sin best when frozen but I've found if ya lay em out on a rock after there no longer frozen let em bake for couple hours in the sun they actually get pretty hard quite easy to hook. I also tried the whole chovie method in hopes of a big one but only pull up a empty hook.[cool] [signature] Re: [lvrider] How do you rig your anchovies? - 4poundonly - 10-01-2010 Yeah I responded 2 months ago in that post erawk made. I picked up the smallest ones they had and it held 1/2 chove perfectly. I feed the pin vertically through the body and latch it down. It kept them on the hook better than any other hook ive used. Mustads 9418. They had a pointed shaft, and a clip that you tied to your line. You could take the hook off the clip to re-rig another anchovie or sardine. Run the hook shaft up the vent and out the mouth, and clip it on to your line. Great way to rig whole anchovies. Watch out for snags. ![]() The Whizzle [signature] Re: [vegaskid] How do you rig your anchovies? - iamthesmf - 10-03-2010 [url "http://www.wayneswords.com/tips.htm"][/url]http://www.wayneswords.com/tips.htm[/url] I would not suggest this rig for Mead. Match the hook to the bait, not the size of the fish. 2/0 circle, Gorilla by Owner or an Octopus hook. [signature] Re: [4poundonly] How do you rig your anchovies? - iamthesmf - 10-05-2010 Not much, check the forum section. I have only replied to one post so far. [signature] Re: [syncityangler] How do you rig your anchovies? - iamthesmf - 10-05-2010 Try preparing your cut bait at home. Cut the bait about the size of your thumb and place in a one gallon ziplock plastic bag. 5 or 6 bags of bait will good to go in the ziplock. Then add some sent to the mix, like Anise (smells like licorice) minced garlic or some Pro Cure sent. [url "http://www.pro-cure.com/sauce.html"][/url]http://www.pro-cure.com/sauce.html[/url] Whole bait less head and tail are great for February thru April but you need to get it past the smaller fish. [signature] Re: [iamthesmf] How do you rig your anchovies? - lvrider - 10-06-2010 How do you get it past the small fish? I would say a sinker but arent lake mead strippers weary of sinkers? [signature] Re: [lvrider] How do you rig your anchovies? - iamthesmf - 10-06-2010 Use the Carolina rig with about 36" of leader. You may need a 4oz weight they have hit a 2oz on the drop. A 1oz weight free falls at about 2 feet per second. This is good for depth counting, also try reeling up from the bottom. Turn the handler on your reel and note the line distance, normally a 5:2:1 gear will real two feet per turn. From March thru June this is very effective and the fish are not line or sinker shy. [signature] Re: [lvrider] How do you rig your anchovies? - 4poundonly - 10-06-2010 Ive casted into a boil with a shad lure with no hookups then casted into the boil with a lime green sinker & anchovies soon as it hit the bottom I was catching tons of sm 5" stripers. I think the smaller ones sit on the bottom of boils and pick up the shad scraps left behind from the topwater action. But Ive also heard the opposite big lazy ones sittin on the bottom just letting the carcuss float down to em. [signature] Re: [4poundonly] How do you rig your anchovies? - iamthesmf - 10-06-2010 How deep did you go? Small stripers will follow a cut bait and attack it like Piranhas leaving only bone. [signature] Re: [iamthesmf] How do you rig your anchovies? - lvrider - 10-08-2010 Ive had this happen to me at hole 33 many times...
