Use the Carolina rig with about 36" of leader. You may need a 4oz weight they have hit a 2oz on the drop.
A 1oz weight free falls at about 2 feet per second.
This is good for depth counting, also try reeling up from the bottom. Turn the handler on your reel and note the line distance, normally a 5:2:1 gear will real two feet per turn.
From March thru June this is very effective and the fish are not line or sinker shy.
