I think it is oxygen deprivation on the winters with huge ice. If the lake had an aeration system similar to the one installed at Roberts it would probably better support a bigger fish population. As the ice thickens the weed beds begin to decay below the ice using up what little oxygen is left. The results have been huge die offs of perch and other fish.
