I've fished the south side of Utah Lake for six years now, around the lincoln beach area, which would probably be the best spot to take off from to get to bird island, and I've never seen anyone out that far in the lake. I don't know why though, it looks pretty solid all the way out there and I've never seen open water that forms between the island and lincoln beach boat ramp to indicate a warm spring. I guess there's just not many people that want to find out if they can go out there without any problems. For me, I just don't have a snow mobile and it's a long ways to walk, but you can see the island from the lincoln beach boat launch and the ice over there is atleast 8 inches out as far as i've walked.
