Guys,
I am going to hit utah lake the week. I am thinking either Wed or Thur. Can I catch walleye there?

Good luck with that through the ice. I fished Lincoln beach yesterday and never got a bite. ice was at least 8 inches maybe 10. We fished from 2 ft of water out to 6 feet.

There are plenty of walleye in Utah Lake but catching them is a different story. Not many catch walleye through the ice. Maybe since you are from the Walleyes states you might teach us Utah guys somthing. Either way most of the walleye I have seen caught through the ice were accidental. People fishing for white bass or some other target species will now and again get a

Can you (or anyone) tell me, is there anyplace on the lake I need to worry about week ice? I will be taking my snowmobile so I need a good 6 to 8 inches.
Also, is there anywhere I can find a contour map of the lake?

Both Smith and Edwards and Sportsman's Warehouse sell contour maps of some Utah lakes by Fish-n-Map Co. They have a Utah Lake and Yuba Reservoir combo map which shows various access points, structure and even some underwater springs where there might be some thinner ice.
Don't know what the actual ice conditions are because I haven't made it down there yet. East Canyon was awesome for bows and even one tiger trout yesterday though!

Yes, there are walleye there. Catching them thru the ice is a completely different story (Let alone when there is no ice).
Utah lake is one of the most unique walleye fisheries in the state. Shallow, murky, no structure. Makes for a fun challenge.
Most times you hear rumors of walleye being pulled thru the ice there. Rarely any posts come up on the forum here with walleye through the ice.

coldfooter and my self were out there 3 day's ago and iced a eye.. 1 eye for 14 hours of fishing.. not easy but can be done!
oh and we iced about 30 to 40 rock's from 3 oz's to about 2 lbs [crazy]

Well, being a walleye man myself I am going to give it a shot. I just ran over to sportsmans and picked up a map. I was able to find a few spots that I want to try. I LOVE walleye and being from ND thats all I fished for, so I did get to know them pritty well. With that said I am in a new area of the country, and the eyes could act different around here.
If anyone would like to join me on Wed morning I will be leaving Roy about 6 or 7am. I MUST be back by 4pm so I can pick up the kids from school/day care since my wife will be working an evening shift that day.
If any of you have ever planned a fishing trip, and I mean sit down with a map of the lake and plan a trip, you know all to well that the plan with goto crap as soon as you start your truck to leave... lol
But the plan of attact is as follows:
1) pack the night before, including snacks gas for the snowmobile, ect
2) Set the alarm for 5am, hit snooze until 5:30am (my wife hates that)
3) On the road at 6am
4) stop at Mcdonalds for breakfast burito
5) spill half of the burito on my lap as soon as I get on the highway.
6) Hit the ice and MOVE MOVE MOVE until I find the fish
7) Take full limit of 23" walleyes back to truck and go home.
Well, it all sounds good, but we will see, how it goes. LOL, I don't care who ya are thats funny stuff right there!!! LMAO

Ron,
I would agree with you about walleye being a night trip most of the time, however, I have found that in the winter with the ice and snow cover the eyes will bite during the day too, sometimes even better than at night. If the eyes don't workout for me though I will be changing tactics and hunting down other fish... But I gotta give it a shot.
By the way, where is fish lake? I might have to give that a shot sometime too.

well i did not mean that you could not catch them in the day time.. i have caught some at Ut lake in the winter during the day time.. but where your comeing from the land of eye's i'm thinking you might have a better handle on them then i ever have.. lol i got some budd's that live in bismark and they are some eye catching fool's...
that's one of the reasons i would like to join ya.. but i allredy made plans for 2 days at fish lake fishing lake trout!
oh fish lake is way down south SLC about 4 hour drive i would say..

He's fishing the Lincoln Beach area which has volcanic ledges all over it. They break off and the smaller pieces are easily hooked while jigging. Just pumice. Every now and then you will see a piece floating.

Don't know where you plan to access, but I'd be real cautious around the north end in the Saratoga area. There are quite a few hot springs out from the old resort, and one large one that is southeast from that private marina that is big and pushes out a lot of warm water.
