It's a fairly tough puncture resistant material, polyethylene. I have tried it on dead pike, but no live ones so far. On the mount, I couldn't feel the teeth come through, although I probably wasn't pressing as hard as a pike biting down. Even if you did have a pike bite down and felt the pain, you could still pull your thumb out of the Fishin' Finger before it got too uncomfortable.
