I need angler advice - montanashawn - 01-31-2008

Attention all anglers,

I have a new product that I'm getting ready to bring to market and would like to hear from other anglers from different parts of the country/world. It's called Fishin' Finger [url "http://www.fishinfinger.com"]www.fishinfinger.com[/url] . I'm from Montana and have experience fishing for trout and bass. I want to get feedback what other types of fishermen think about this product. Basically, Fishin' Finger is a thumb sleeve on a retractor used to "lip" the fish once it is reeled in. It comes in any color and can be private labeled. I am looking for advice on how to market this item as it is new territory for me.

Let me know how you think this product will work for your type of fishing. Thanks for any feedback.

Sounds like a good idea, I know my thumb gets tore up bass fishing. That may be the only fresh water market you may be able to get into. Call up cableas online and pitch them the idea, make sure they don't steal it from you.

[Wink]Hell yeah, these cutthroats tear my fingers up!! You get em' by the lip and they start thrashing around and it sucks. How bout' you send me some samples and I get em' out to some of my fishin' buddies and we start promoting for you? Some stickers or something to throw on my ice hut and truck?? That's what I'm talking about!!!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll give out free samples to anyone who can bring me some sales![Wink]

We don't have them in stores yet, still trying to figure out packaging and how to get them in retail stores.

Keep the feedback coming.

If you can get some my way, I can get you some good business. I fish on a daily basis as a sponsored angler. Everyone wants to know what I am using, when, why and who make it.

I am in SoCal. we have many Bass fishermen here to distribute to.

Send me some prices in a PM. I can get some distrubutors out here.[cool]

They do have fishing gloves designed to handle even the toothy critters (pike, smaller musky) but this looks like it's something that will be worth giving a try for smaller fish. Is it simply a thumb coat? Or is it an extra tough, puncture resistant material?

I will let you know as soon as I see them in person. I willeven go as far as sticking a Bass on the end with it too.[cool]

I'd buy one. Those big bass can do a number on your thumb.

It's a fairly tough puncture resistant material, polyethylene. I have tried it on dead pike, but no live ones so far. On the mount, I couldn't feel the teeth come through, although I probably wasn't pressing as hard as a pike biting down. Even if you did have a pike bite down and felt the pain, you could still pull your thumb out of the Fishin' Finger before it got too uncomfortable. It should be good for less toothy and aggressive fish. However, we do make the disclaimer that you shouldn't try to lip sharks, barracuda or man-eating pirhana's![Wink]

Keep the questions and feedback coming.

There is a guy here in Hawaii making something like that. Small time business. They use it to protect the thumb when casting those big Penn 4-0 and 6-0 reels.

Surf fishermen might be a market for your product.

That's pretty interesting Stan.

Let me know if you know of any stores over there that might be interested in carrying the Fishin' Finger.

I have no experience in surf fishing and appreciate your feedback.

Hey Stan. I have some of the Burnin Thumb protectors. They are not as practical for thumbing the "Sand paper" tooth critters though. I think the device that Montanashawn is making may be the breakthrough for the best of both worlds.[cool]

Having your thumb all chewed up is the best part of Bass fishing. When they ask how I did I just hold my thumb up. You can tell by their horrified reaction....I did well! If you really want to fortify your story, thumb a grouper.

Never thumb a Barricuda, Puffer fish, or Morey eel. Words of wisdom or how I can only count to eight.

Reds, Chucks, Grumpys and Bull Calicoes are the best on the thumb. I keep my fingers out of the way of the toothy critters.[shocked]
