DC was Delightful - chubby chaser - 05-27-2025 Hello fellow fishers. I took my wife, father in law, and daughter to DC for some memorial day fishing on Saturday morning with concerns of possible rain. Glad we went, since for about 3 hours the fishing was almost non-stop for hard-fighting, chunky bows. We motored to the north of the lake and almost as soon as we dropped lines we were getting hits. I've really found that the Macks Flashlites seem to be the magic, they act like pop gear but without near as much drag. We pulled standard Kokanee/trout gear like wedding rings, hoochies, tipped with a pink maggot etc. Didnt seem to matter color, they loved it all. Lost count somewhere around 30 fish but we could have easily hit 100 if we'd kept going. We had doubles and triples the entire time. The weather held and the sun even came out making it nice and warm, but women and elderly people often have small bladders so rather than make a walk up and back down the ramp and going back out, we opted to leave around noon, just as a lot of the power squadron were beginning to show up. My FIL is 80 and isnt going to have many more years of fishing so it was fun to keep him on so many fish, he had a ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: DC was Delightful - Piscophilic - 05-27-2025 Hey CC, Thanks for the great report and pictures! I long line and run a 30lb braid on my rods, connected with a bead and snap swivel to 2 feet of 15 lb mono leader connected to a macks flashlite or a teardrop shaped dodger with another 16 inches of leader to a wedding ring, spinner, or hoochie. Tipped with a pink maggot. I use sliding weights so I can easily adjust depth by changing out the weight as needed. On this particular day I was running about 5-10 feet deep since we saw lots of surface activity I figured the fish were up shallow and I was correct. On my line counter we were out between 120 to 150 feet behind the boat. |
