We definitely have a case of perch rash. Lots of gill cuts and spine holes. Normally, if I am going perch fishing I wear my half glove on my left hand to cut back on some of that damage. I did not go to fish for perch yesterday. Thatâs just how it worked out.
Good luck with your pike search. The water level is now below the flooded brush and there are not many stickups left underwater. As you probably know, you will have to look for points or rockpiles. There arenât a lot of them in Yuba, once the water drops.
I think youâre absolutely on target with the perch population thing. The 10 fish limit, if it even goes through, is gonna be way too little & too late.

Yes, the perch will eat walleye fry, just as the walleye will eat perch fry. Sounds like corporate America, doesnât it.
I agree that a 10 fish limit will probably do little to slow the explosive population growth of the perch at this point. I suggested 10 fish, rather than the statewide limit of 20, just to appease the walleye guys who oppose opening Yuba for perch at all. They still think that the only way to get more walleye in the lake is more perch. But, as you point out, the more perch there are at this point, the fewer walleye fry are likely to survive to adult statusâŠso that they can munch some perch in return.
