You have sparked my interest in researching this further, and I’ve have not been able to find any real studies about this. However, there is some evidence to support the claim that wolves do kill just to kill.
But there is also evidence that bears and other predators do too. But there is no known evidence that ALL wolves, bears or large predators kill for fun. I do support the idea of controlling wolves by hunting but as with any hunting, it should be regulated and controlled.

I am also, as is Bearclaw watching this post. I’m all for a healthy debate and I am fine with this one so far. Let’s do our best to agree to disagree if that’s what we have to do.
There is allot of evidence about this topic? Try harder! Wolves are the only predators that will kill just to kill and the info is easy to find.
Bears, mountain lions and coyotes do not kill and waste the kill, they will bury the animal and come back and feed on it later.wolves just keep moving and hardly ever return to the kill to finish it off.They also seem to like to just wound an animal by tearing at it’s hind quarters until it can not stand any longer and the animal will suffer for many days before dieing and the wolves never come back to eat it?
If you do enough research you will see there is a reason why most sportsman and ranchers do not want even a single pack of wolves here. Like I stated before we have enough coyotes around to keep a good balance.the wolf was eradicated for a reason,they bring no balance they kill everything they can until there is nothing and then they move on.that’s what there good at.
I’m done trying to convince you, hope you realize after digging that we need to keep the wolves out of Utah.Or regulate them heavily to keep there numbers in check. If you don’t hunt big game. I see why your not educated on this. Anyone that does understands what is coming and are trying to protect the herds that we have now are responsiable good people, don’t bash on people that are trying to do something good for all of use.
If something doesn’t happen soon, You will see the affects they have on all of use.
??? i have a moore graffic video of wolves killing pregnant cow elk for their unborn calfs. ther take down the cow by the nose and hold her. then another goes up in her whoom and rips the calf out. they eat it. but leave the cow hemraging and dont eat her. then they go after another pregnant cow. the video show about 200 plus kill seens or crime seens… hope you see the truth.
Regardless whether they kill for “fun” or not, all you need to do is talk to sportsmen from Idaho and see what has happened to their elk and deer herds. I have family and friends up there and they’re blown away at how fast their animals have DISAPPEARED due to one factor alone, the reintroduction of the wolf. I think they’re an amazing animal, but any wolf I get a shot at is dead because its them or the elk. We’ve disturbed the natural balance of things for the last 200 years and elk don’t know how to live with wolves anymore in Utah.

What other preditors besides a Mountain Lion and Bear have the power to take down an elk??? And how many stories do you hear of Lions and Bears killing elk??? A wolf needs around 26 elk to survive in a year… so lets just say 200 wolves by 26 elk a piece= There is 5200 Elk dead right there… And there are far more wolves than 200… Whats your thoughts about that???
