Willard Bay and Manuta 8-5

Yeah I heard about the prop making white water bubbles incident. That must have sucked. So a question for you “Barney” enthusiasts! Is barney a female or male officer?

Every time I drive by the DNR truck at the launch I see a woman in the truck. Is this the infamous barney you guys speak so highly of?[;)]

I can’t wait to meet him someday. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and be respectful to him. It is only fair to treat him well, as I haven’t met him yet. Hope it goes well.

:sunglasses:I haven’t even fished Mantua for over a year so I haven’t kept up on “staff” changes. Not familiar with the lady…“Barn-ette”? Maybe Barney in drag trying to fool some poor old fisherman.

Always a good idea to treat officers with courtesy and respect. For the most part they have a really thankless job and have to deal with a lot of folks who make their jobs harder…through ignorance, stupidity and/or downright indifference to the laws.

I have always found it creates a more pleasant interaction…on both sides…if you make an effort to provide what is asked without snarky comments. And I have witnessed otherwise mild situations go quickly south just because some guy was trying to impress his buddies or girl companions by mouthing off to an officer. They usually have some discretion on how they handle things and you can help determine in which direction the discretion is tilted.

Hey. Is Barnette a hottie?

tubedude nailed it. just like with anything, keep your head and it doesn’t hurt to B.S. with them and what not. I know some dwr guys out at the marsh and they’re nice as can be to me cause of it. they just ask how the hunting was from now on. and ya never know when they’ll throw ya a tip of info or what not. life’s all about connections and bridges.

If Barney is the guy we ran into, he is what? About 5’9? Both ways? He may not be female, but he has the chest of one. All joking aside, he is not really that large. He is an average height guy, pretty pudgy, arrogant as snot. He is Mantua PD, not DNR. When Yote had his run in, I waited in the boat, but when he approached the boat, you could smell his attitude (at least thats what I hope it was) and he said “Come with me! You and I are gonna have a little talk at my truck about speed and proximity”. I cant vouch for while they were over at the truck, but while they were within earshot of me, Yote was respectful. Doesn’t help with officer Chip (on his shoulder).

I don’t know much about the lady in the truck. She was there once when I was. There were some teenagers fishing right next to the dock when she pulled in. They saw the DNR truck and scrambled to pick up their stuff. Then they must have realized who it was or something because they quickly relaxed and dropped their stuff.

jdawg hit it purdy good there I’d say. Some of the “other” tales of his “handling” make me really question his “professionalism” (yeah - fingers in the air quoting alrighty).

Definitely a male. Think you can tell Barney from Betty by his wandering left eye. Still waiting for my day to face my accuser - whichever direction he’s really looking. Sure they’re in no hurry, but sure will expect you to be when they bark, no doubt.

I was extremely polite, and courteous. Even tried to be chit-chatty as he clearly wasn’t EVEN going to consider a warning or any such (sad thing was - we couldn’t get on plane that day for the life of that tug-boat!).
Have had enough “experiences” in my youth to know - best thing to do with the law is kiss that big round butt with all the pucker you can muster (stack up the lemons buddy!). Attitude with ONLY get you in bigger trouble, even if you’re not in trouble in the first place!

Have had a number of great ‘runins’ with DNR folks. Flashm the license, and start asking questions. If anyone knows what’s biting where on what - it’ll be them.
I’ve even thanked them for checking my license - pay for the danged thing, might as well show it off once in a while!

He was NOT wearing a yellow shirt though. I don’t think he’s the only Mantua PD officer. Don’t go over 60MPH on the HWY there, they commonly camp just at the bottom of the hill on the East side. You can see their ‘turnout’.
