Why do a lot of fishermen fish alone?????

Cause most fishermen are loners by nature - brooding, anti-social types and/or in search of a break from the constant competition, stress, and posturing involved in many human interactions.

You can run the risk of inviting one or more of the following on your outing:

Drill Sergeants
Scorekeepers
People that “have to be home” by a certain time
Braggarts
Wimps
Ethical differences vis a vis the sport of fishing

I fish alone and with good friends and enjoy both for different reasons - man, if you find a good fishing partner, enjoy the ride. May not always last…

Solitude.

I fish alone because I hate everyone… except like 6 or 7 people… but they usually can’t stand my skills and stunning good looks.

pm me. Hope I can figure out how to use the pm

I usually fish alone because not too many people use kayaks.

Most of the time I have someone with me in the boat, but all my fishing buddies know if you are not ready at the appointed time I will leave your ass at home. And unless other plans are made in advance, don’t tell the wife or girl friend you will be home at a certain time, cause if their biting, we aint leaving! That being said, my son has become my constant partner on the water, and more than once he has missed school to come fishing with me. He will turn 14 tomorrow and I am trying to grab all the father/son time with him that I can before friends and girls become more important that hanging with the “old man”. I dread the day when he asks to borrow the boat because his girlfriend wants to go fishing and I an not invited!

I haven’t posted mush here on BFT, mostly just read occasionally; however, I like this question…I have a fishing buddy who is, in fact, my best friend. We usually fish together chasing Bass and Tiger Muskies. There is the occasion when he has other plans thus, leaving me to either fish alone or try to convince my other friends that fishing is fun. In these cases I typically choose to go alone to avoid the hassle or let-down when someone backs out at the last minute. Launching and loading the Z-9 isn’t really that difficult, since I have had plenty of experience. I always wear my PFD when out alone on the water.
Prefer to fish with friend(s); though, alone can be very rewarding and peaceful.

pm me. Hope I can figure out how to use the pm

I like it both ways, when I’m alone I get to real all the fish in.
when with the wife she has one side and I take the other and I hope my side does better Or I will hear about it.
when I take other people I let them reel in most of the fish. because I’m teaching them the way I fish. Also I have a grandson that is so fast I don’t have a chance to get to the downrigger rod.
with two people I will have 4 lines out. with 3 I put out 5 lines.

I enjoy both. Funny thing is I always catch more and usually bigger ones when I’m by myself. I think it’s because I’m not distracted by asking what someone else wants to do. I just do it.
Kind of like a lot of the other post on this topic.

AMEN to that brother! Trolling is for people who can’t fish for real.

I have a new decal on my boat that is a picture of a garden troll in a red circle with a diagonal line through it.

I’ve been thinking about your question, if I want a productive day of fishing I always fish alone, it seems like when I take company with me to fish I’m always providing poles bait, and teaching them how to fish, don’t get much time to fish for myself, often when you take someone they feel obligated to carry on a conversation. Talk talk talk! I prefer the solitude and quite of fishing alone, I like quite, no talking just focusing on fishing period. You miss the details when fishing with someone else, There is a place for both but I’ll take solitude 90% of the time

I resemble that remark. I’m not sure I could fish as much as I do, if I could not troll.

Really, well that is just the opposite of me, talking is part of the fun of fishing, getting to know the person you are fishing with and passing the time between fish hook ups but that is trolling and if you fish another method, well that explains your reasoning.

About the only time I fish alone is if my plans fall through at the last moment but I still want to get out and do some fishing. I might also fish by myself when I don’t want to take my boat out but still want to go fishing, in those times, I’ll usually just hit a community pond, lots of older retired guys there to talk to[;)].

Hey Curt. I’d fish with you anytime. Troll or no troll.
One of these days we’ll have to get together.

I am probably unique…but I love to fish and my husband doesn’t like to fish much anymore. I go alone a lot since none of my friends like to go. My kids hate to fish so I leave them home to watch tv with the hubby. I do not have a motor boat but I do have a pontoon that is way fun. I just did a 2 day trip to the Uintas on Mon and Tues and knocked them dead.

Always good conversation on the snake.

Our politicians need to spend a little time in Gertrude, maybe they’d figure some of this crap out.

Another plus for fishing with others is the opportunity to learn new waters and new techniques. I have improved my fishing skills immeasurably from observing how others fish certain waters or for various species.

Lareen - Great job on your Uinta trip. Love to hear that you’re still fishing even if he doesn’t want to. Lucky for me, my hubby still wants to fish as does his Mom when she comes to visit. So far we have never had to fish alone. But if the day comes in our future… I am sure we’d at least take the dog…

Sounds like when I take my wife and kids.[;)]

This is very true. In June I picked up some very good info and skills from Curt. I have also done the same when out with TD.
