I like to catch ling (burbot) in the winter icefishing. Never have tried in the summer. I wish we had them in Idaho.
Giant browns!,
Musky,
big channel cats…
Brook trout, of coarse. Because of where they live, how well they fight, how amazing they look, and how rare and challenging large specimens are.
Plus they love in the most gorgeous places! I also love the frankenfish the tiger trout. No mistaken when you get a large tiger trout on the line they fight like mad. Closely followed by the rainbow and the Arial show they put on.
none of the above.
All you carp fisherman just select TROUT. … why would anybody fish for trout when they could spend a day hunting for a fish you can actually eat?
All you had to say was: “any species” hehee
and when have you ever known me to be one of few words?! Or to be decisive about anything!
but - I’ll stick with Walleye for my bottom line vote.
- Cutthroat Trout
- Brook Trout
- Tiger Trout
- Grayling
- Brown Trout
- Rainbow Trout
- Wiper
- Smallmouth
- Whatever ends up on the line.
All fishing is fun. There’s just something special about fishing for trout up in the mountains. Lake to lake, pond to pond, stream to stream. That’s what does it for me.
Watch out who you post your reply to. Whats more about your comment about trout, (removed)..

All you carp fisherman just select TROUT. … why would anybody fish for trout when they could spend a day hunting for a fish you can actually eat? Oh the nerve!
my bad… obviously that wasnt directed at you … I got a little bit spoiled living in MT my whole life. Trout are MT Carp in my book. Walleye fishing separates the men from the boys. And for all of you that say the best way to catch walleye is to fish for something else and hope for the best… ![]()
tight lines.
Yup. Once you stoop to walleye from trout you’ve went from a man to a boy.
I’ll agree though, walleye are tasty. They just don’t pull hard enough and live in drab surroundings.[;)]
Drab surroundings?..o.k. I have caught my fair share of trout. They are fun to catch and anybody can catch them. When my daughter is old enough to hold a pole I will take her trout fishing for sure. If I want to go catch some fish to eat and that present somewhat of a challenge…I go walleye fishing.
Oh…btw brookie guy. you are actually a char fisherman not a trout fisherman. Brookies are not trout, they are char (lake trout) are also char. See it’s not so bad, your not a slimer fisherman after all!
True. As are Dolly Varden, Arctic Char, Kunja Char, Sunapee Trout, Aurora Trout, Blueback Trout, and Bull Trout. They’re still all salmonids though.
***Pa: what ever happens to be in the water I’m floating on. ***
Absolutely…100% on that! Add walking rivers and standing shore fishing.
I love Channel Cats for over all fight/taste/fun, LMb for the way of fishing, cause I love feeling it slam a wackyworm
Tiger trout and Brook trout for looks:)
Micropterus Salmoides also known as the Largemouth Bass. Although it’s tied with a feisty micropterus dolomieu, smallmouth bass.
Love them trouts in the fall but bass are where it’s at.

I love spawning fish. So I go for the Yellow Perch, Walleye, White Bass, Bluegill, Black Crappie, Green sunfish, Smallmouth bass, Largemouth Bass, Channel and Bullhead Catfish, and Carp in the spring. Over the summer I target whatever bites the best, usually bass. As fall approaches I target the Lake Trout spawn, Rainbow spawners and the Brown Trout spawn. Through the ice the Kokenee Salmon are fun. Can’t chase them during their spawn.[frown]
Over the spring and fall I love the shoreline bite from trout!
Top 3 are 1)Greensunfish, 2)Tiger trout, 3) Lake Trout.
Carp fight harder then trout do..And may taste the same as well..
