have yet to taste/catch walleye. still on the quest.
Catch and release for me. I’m not a big fish person but when I do take some home its trout. I’ve actually haven’t tried any other fish (from utah) so I wouldn’t know. Maybe I need to set the same goal as you. I think the only reason I do bring home trout is cause thats what I usually fish for but I’m trying to expand my horizon this year and fish for other species besides trouth and muskie.

Funny, last summer I had some walleye, wiper, and rainbow trout and I prepared it all the same way. I soak it in buttermilk for a day then I lightly drop it in flour and fry it in butter (extra healthy) and season with lemon pepper. I put it on seperate plates and had my kids try a piece of each without telling them what they were eating and both of them chose 1- walleye 2- wiper 3- trout.
One thing that I’ve recently started doing is making fish tacos with the trout I keep. I fillet the fish, cut into pieces, dip in batter, and deep fry. Super Good!!
1. Walleye
2. Wyper
3. Crappie
4. Perch
Looks like Walleye is the catch of choice for most people.
Kokanee by far number one
Walleye is excellent
FG macks if smallish
White bass
Yellow perch is fantastic: just so much trouble for the amount of meat.
and all the others
and yes fish tacos are great
but the very best seasoning for fish is hot grease.
1.) Rainbows
2.) Kokes
3.) Cutts
4.) Channel Cats
5.) Panfish
*I have yet to catch any walleye, stripers, wipers, lakers, or burbot so my list might grow/change after this summer!
I’m definitely the exception to the norm, but as a fisherman, I CANNOT stand eating fish! Most of what I’ve eaten is trout, so that probably has a lot to do with my opinions on fish. I ate a ton of Herring in Sweden. They eat it raw. It’s not good.
About every year or so I tell myself I’m going to try to start liking to eat fish, but it’s always the same result.
In all fairness I’ve never even tried walleye, crappie, or perch. Never really bothered. I think my tastebuds have already made up their minds that they don’t like fish or any seafood for that matter.
Kokanee
crappie
trout ,but not to big and not to small.
Haillibut
Cray fish
perch
I like most all fish, it just depends on how it prepared.
